Nostalgia Now goes to the Movies

Oh what a beautiful mornin'
Oh what a beautiful day!
I got a beautiful feelin'
Everything's goin' my way.

The movie Oklahoma is a tonic and it's coming to the State Theatre in Hobart.

Here's some facts about the movie, that you may not know.

  • It was based on the book Green Grow the Lilies.
  • It was not shot in Oklahoma, but in Arizona. The sight of all the oil rigs in Oklahoma was considered too off-putting.
  • It was out of season for corn, so the University of Arizona was called in to develop some special corn plants.
  • Paul Newman and James Dean were considered for the role eventually played by Gordon McRae.
  • It cost $6.8 million to produce and took 107 days to shoot.
  • Nominated for three Academy Awards, it won two.

State Theatre, Elizabeth St Hobart, Friday 20 April 10.30 am. Tickets $10. Contact Bruce Geeves or Rebecca to secure your place - tickets are limited! Phone 6220 2020
