Avast, me hearties!
'Arrrr.., just off the Cape a ferocious storm hit us, and we feared we was lost, but Cap'n Wade managed to pull us through the Surge!' Well, while perhaps it wasn't quite like that, a heavy shower did dampen the bodies, if not the spirits, of the rowers at the combined Holy Trinity/BayWest Surge! event at Montgomery Park, Coningham on 2 December. Ably hosted by Mission Afloat, the congregations were able to get to know each other while enjoying an excellent barbeque lunch and a range of activities to suit all tastes, including boating, archery, table tennis, drinking tea, rides on the maypole and 'octopull' (a four-way tug o' war). Although some may have considered ping-pong a poor substitute for bird-watching, a good time was had by all, and on seeing the prowess now displayed by our archers and rowers, any Vikings or pirates considering a raiding-party on our part of the coast best be changing their plans forthwith!
Jill Martin says that Mission Afloat has booked a stand at AgFest 2007 and invites any other parishes or Anglican organisations to share their large tent. 'We'd love some other groups in - the more the merrier!' AgFest is from 3 - 5 May 2007. It's a great opportunity to rub shoulders with a large number of Tasmanians and to enjoy each other's company! |
