CMS rocks Port SorellThe annual CMS conference, SummerView, successfully relocated to Port Sorell near Devonport this year after five years at Bicheno. Numbers were up again, with an average of close to 180 each day including visitors. The big gain was the new site, Camp Banksia, where most could live on the same site as the conference meetings. Attentive audiences were challenged by the message of Ecclesiastes brought by Ross Nicholson, and the unpacking by Bishop Rob Forsyth of complex issues surrounding the Christian's interaction with secular society, the State and the environment. Speaking the Gospel into today's world requires that we grapple with the hard questions. Programs for toddlers, Primary school-aged and Secondary school-aged younger people ran concurrently with the keynote sessions and prayer times. Missionaries from Africa, Asia and Latin America participated, and the sign-up sheet for Bishop John's elective entitled, 'Lesson from the UK' suggested that even the Archbishop of Canterbury attended! A purpose of the conference was captured in a special way by two groups of youngsters who mounted a BMX display and a singing/dancing exhibition to raise nearly $100 for CMS! The 2008 conference is scheduled to run from Friday
evening 18 January to Tuesday lunch, 22 January at Camp
Banksia, and the organising committee is working on better
coffee.
