God-Adventures with
The Flying Chick
The Revd Helen
Chick has been appointed by Bishop
John and BCA to lead a missional focus of a caring,
growing and sustainable Christian ministry in the Anglican
Church Parishes of the Furneaux
Islands and Dorset.
This decision underpins the mission strategies of a
healthychurch transforminglife and the Statement of Identity
and Purpose of the Missionary Diocese of Tasmania. It is
also strongly supported by Bishop John and Bush
Church Aid.
Helen's ministry and focus on pastoral care and nurture
to these rural and isolated communities, and development of
local Christian leaders, is evident in the following.
- Ministering full-time on the Furneaux Islands,
including Cape Barren Island, from September to December
2006, and living in the rectory at Whitemark, Flinders
Island. Helen has been getting out amongst the people,
e.g: learning Scottish dancing with a passionate and
energetic teacher of 92 years young, drinking in the bar
at the local pub on Friday nights, preaching a series on
the Letter to the Hebrews, pastoral offices and care,
prayer groups, nurturing and enabling lay ministers.
- From 1 Jan 2007, Helen took up her appointment as
Priest in Charge of Dorset, living in the rectory at
Scottsdale. She will minister there for 70 percent ot the
time and continue on the Furneaux Islands for 30 percent
(approximately ten days per month).
- We are responding to the Holy Spirit in this
innovative and challenging mission. It is literally a
'flight of faith', because as you may guess, flying in
small planes is an integral part of Helen's life
so
much so that already she has been dubbed The Flying
Chick!
BCA is providing 48 air crossings to and from mainland
Tassie each year.
Please pray for Helen and the communities of the Furneaux
Islands and Dorset as we journey with Jesus in continuing
and making known God's Rescue Mission of love, grace and
hope.
