Celebrating Mothers' UnionMothers Union may seem to be a diminishing influence in Australia, as its members ages and few younger women are joining the organisation. Dianne Moore from Sheffield says that what is not generally known is that MU is rated as one of the top five mission organisations in the world. An exciting example of the expansion of this Anglican women's organisation is the establishment at Easter 2006 of a branch of MU in the International Zone in Bagdad, Iraq. An enthusiastic group of more than 100 women are receiving regular funding from the UK to offer support and education to mothers and families in this strife-torn country. Mothers Union already has a strong tradition of support and education for women and children in African countries and in several Pacific nations. The influence is increasing in strength. Visit the MU website for more news on this important mission organisation. On a local noteThe MU branch at Sheffield (Tas.) recently celebrated its 97th birthday and a special highlight of the celebration was the marking of 66 years of service in MU by Mrs Zillah Atkins.
