Remembering Mary Jones

At the end of October, St Leonards Parish in Launceston had a visit from Phil Clifford from the Bible Society, to speak at a dinner about the work of the Society in the Middle East.

To prepare for this event the church of St Peter's decided on a Welsh Day to remember Mary Jones some 200 years ago walking 20 miles to the town of Bala in North Wales to buy a Bible in her own Welsh language. The congregation dressed up in Welsh period costume of that era.

We have students at the church from the local WEC College and were able to arrange to have the 23rd Psalm read verse by verse in English, Chinese, Korean and of course Welsh, and we finished the service with two songs sung in Welsh! The morning tea was of course all Welsh fare, by the great cooks of St Peters.
