Celebrate! 2006

All Saints, South Hobart was a hive of activity over the weekend of 2-5 November.

Some one hundred and twenty entries were received in the Art Competition (with the theme of All Creatures Great and Small) to support the St Nicholas Hospice for Children, Bloemfontein, South Africa.

The winners of the competition gathered in the church, with about two hundred children on the Friday, to receive their prizes, to celebrate God's love and the gifts and talents with which each person has been endowed.

After the energetic worship, led by Fr John Goodwin, from the Hutchins School, the young people adjourned to the hall for morning tea, provided by members of the Hutchins School Grade 5. It was an amazing expression of unity and community.

The buzz continued on the Saturday with people engaged in workshops on scrap-booking for Christmas, choral singing, and lead lighting. Brother Nathan James SSF joined us again and offered three workshops as a School of Prayer - the first session an introductory one; the second based around the method of contemplating the scriptures, Lectio Divina; and the third a contemplation on the San Damiano Crucifix (that lies at the heart of the Franciscan Movement).

Saturday came to a close with a Liturgy of Light, with music provided by members of the Choral Workshop and a Parish Dinner.

On the Sunday the parish celebrated its Patronal Festival. In the evening well over a hundred people shared in a Requiem for All Souls. Requiem by Fauré was sung in its liturgical setting by the Collegiate Singers, directed by Anne Morgan.

Over these days we were privileged to share the gifts and talents of many people and were enriched by the community formed. We give thanks to God for the many blessings we received.

There was time for friendship and reflection in the tranquil garden behind All Saints, South Hobart.
