Short Book ReviewsMessage of Hope Written by Hobart author Fiona Harcourt and published in
Tasmania, this is the story of her life as a migrant, her
conversion to Christianity and her healing from a rare
cancer, Ewings Sarcoma. She is living testament to the power
of modern medicine combined with prayer and faith. An
inspiring read. 365 Ways to Change the World An unusual book with some wonderful ideas for making a
difference - one day at a time, with one idea for each day
of the year. Most of these are small things, but so easy to
do and reminiscent of Archbishop Tutu's advice on how to eat
an elephant. (Very slowly, one piece at a time.) Some ideas
include 'Goat revolving', walking school bus, 'un-shopping',
reducing your ecological footprint, have 'green babies'. You
will have to read the book to find out what they all
are. Daily Services from A Prayer Book for Australia Morning and evening prayers have framed the daily life of God's people for millenia. The pattern of praise, psalm, scripture and prayer has been renewed in recent decades this book is one example. This short book collates these services together with a
weekly cycle of psalms and a selection of prayers from APBA
and makes them accessible for use at home or work. The
softcover and rounded corners combine in a lovely resource
which should encourage the habit of regular prayer.
Commended by the Bishop to the Australian Defence Force, Dr
Tom Frame and the Rev. Dr Elizabeth Smith of Melbourne who
says, 'A psalm, a canticle or two, and the same Bible
reading that tens of thousands of other Anglicans are
hearing on the same day - these enrich me, even when I am
praying alone, in a suburban parish or while travelling away
from home.'
