Mission Afloat - A Blackberry HatIf you had peered through the windows of Montgomery Park on one cold winter's night in July, Wade Briton says that you would have witnessed a rather unusual scene. Fancy decorations, raucous singing, sumptuous food, a blackberry hat and a burning placemat were the order of the evening. It was the inaugural 'Meal with a Mission' - a fantastic event organised by Betty Broadley and her crew of merry helpers. The main centre was decked with fresh flowers, coloured flags and creative table settings. We sang rousing sea chanties under the guidance of Phillippa and ate a hearty feast prepared by Dianne. The unique 'Blackberry Hat' was unveiled to the astonishment of all - it was worn by the MC and anyone making a speech! - and our resident Scout leader, Peter, managed to brighten up the night even more with his burning placemat. We celebrated the work God has been doing through Mission Afloat and looked forward to what He has in store for us. Thankyou to all who contributed to the evening and especially to Sarah, Daniel and Jenny who came and helped Dianne serve the meal. Mission Afloat NewsWinter's a great time for conferences, and Mission Afloat has been represented at two this winter. The first was the Christian Resources Exhibition, held at The Dome at Homebush in Sydney in early July. Here, Allister and Wade, Peter and Pat ran a display stand for Mission Afloat, gave away bag tags, showed our video to many interested people, and made many worthwhile contacts. It was a very useful time. The second was the Christian Camping International conference held at Philip Island early this month. Allister attended, and was greatly encouraged by inspirational teaching and the opportunity to connect with other Christian camping leaders at Port Hacking and Lake Macquarie. Mission Afloat is certainly unique in the breadth and creativity of its programs! Mission Australia is partnering Mission Afloat in two Work for the Dole placements at present, and MAT is also fortunate to be looking after two young 'deckhands' for one day a week.
