Love those ODDSOX

At the end of July St Clement's Church, Kingston, transformed into what resembled more a primary school fair than Sunday morning church.

A crisp frosty winter's morning soon turned into blue skies with a warming winter sun beaming down as children of all ages crowded into the front of the main church to form a 'mosh pit' of jumping, dancing, flag waving, excitable youngsters, all thrilling to the sounds of ODDSOX whilst praising Jesus.

A puppet show depicting a modern day good Samaritan story not only delighted the young audience but also gave an opportunity for a rest from all the 'moshing'.

Meanwhile, the barbie was being fired up and the fair atmosphere was only just beginning. With the latest Hillsong music in the background, children and parents alike poured outside to continue to enjoy what had been extensively advertised as a free kids' festival.

Excited youngsters gobbled down blue fairy floss whilst waiting for a ride on the ever-popular donkeys. Chocolate crackles, toffee apples, cakes, muffins and other delicacies helped fill little tummies while they waited to have faces painted, or for a balloon creation.

Our men's breakfast team were busy at the sausage sizzle - more than 400 sausages in bread, with litres of tomato sauce, all washed down by refreshing cordial from the 'Bootcamp' youth stall. There was many an astonished look by parents on discovering that all this was free.

For us as a church it has been an opportunity to reach out to young families in our community and an opportunity to bless those who accepted our invitation: a practical way of saying 'Come and taste that the Lord is good' (Psalm 34:8)
