Cross TrainingChris Bowditch has some ideas for getting creative in ministry to our youth. Youth Ministry is something that has great currency in our diocese at the moment. Lots of people are excited about what future plans God has for our church and its role in reaching out to the unchurched generation of young people today. But while there is a lot of excitement, many of us simply don't know where to begin. Many of us are afraid to make a mistake, and so fail to act at all. To overcome this fear, I want to point in the direction of several resources that will help you to think more clearly about how to reach out to young people, or how to start a new youth group, or how to grow your current small group. x An excellent book is Do they run when they see you coming? by Jonathan McKee It gives an insight into the minds of young people who don't go to church and who don't follow Jesus. It is an eye opener and will definitely help you to get creative in reaching out to anybody, not just youth. x This website - The Source for Youth Ministry - is run by McKee. It gives a whole range of free games, talks, activities and forms which will enable you to run fun, creative activities and events for young people to attend. x Fruit that will last by Tim Hawkins Tim came to Tasmania last year and gave a series of talks on running an effective youth ministry. If you want to grow an existing youth ministry, then this is the book for you. At BayWest, implementing these Godly plans and strategies has seen us double the number of young people our youth ministry is reaching. Keep going in your efforts to creatively reach out to young people in your community!
