The National Church Life Survey

I'd like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the National Church Life Survey in October. Some people love surveys and others hate them. The most significant motivator is that something good will come of the time and effort. Bishop John is committed to the aims of the survey to nurture life in the leadership and congregations of the church in Australia. In some ways this survey gives us a snapshot of our healthy church, transforming life.

Bishop John is very committed to reshaping the Diocese for local mission and evangelism. The horror stories of the 1990s and decline in church attendance have woken us all to the deep need to reinvigorate local churches.

The NCLS is one marker in this process of rebuilding. The next steps in the process are the very important ones.

Within the next few months your local leaders will receive the summary results of the replies from every member of the congregation. This will give them a chance to review your church's qualities and strengths, and make plans for the future. The NCLS team will provide some very useful resources to help you with working through the feedback. They also have an excellent resource online to help move forward in planning.

Every church will receive a Connections to Life Kit within months of the survey. In addition to your unique church profile, the kit will contain some very useful resources.

The feedback should also be very useful for the Diocesan leadership to shape and plan action for the future of the church. Bishop John and his team are looking forward to receiving the Diocesan-wide summary.

Don't let this NCLS slip by you without careful consideration. The cost is too great to lose the opportunity. Keep an eye out for the survey summaries. Perhaps you could ask your local leaders for reports of their working through the Connections to Life Kit.
