Brekky-fest 2006

Last year St John’s held an early morning fair in the front garden on Launceston Christmas Parade Day, with the idea of attracting the parade crowd.

It became three great missions.
  • As a congregation we learned to work together on a new project that was aimed at being part of a community event, and then to give away our profits.
  • Our Rector Ross taught us to turn fundraising into faith raising.
  • We invited neighbouring churches and other Christian organisations (SU, TEAR FUND, WEC) who provided stalls, music, entertainment and free children’s activities.

We cooked great food and hired the professional Coffee Tram……..Mmmm

The combination Spruiker and Church Welcomers encouraged over 100 people to visit the church building (many of whom said they had walked past it for years!), providing a great opportunity to invite people to our Christmas services.

We even made a profit, and were able to send over $2000 to the TEAR Fund African School Project.

So what will we do this year? It is time to decide what role you are able to play.

Can you cook, sew, get up early? Can you pitch tents, cook eggs, make soup or sell drinks? Do you have other commitments in the morning? Then perhaps you can help dismantle tents.

Last year lots of people worked alongside others they had not previously known – what a way to make new friends! Perhaps some of you would like to do that again?

Or, can your ‘study group’ get together on a team project and share the workload.

Do you know of any organisation that may like to be present on this day? They can use the day to promote their cause, or fundraise if appropriate.
