New congregation

In February, the Anglican Parish of Burnie held a Family Fun Day in Somerset's ANZAC Park.

The aim was to provide a day of family-oriented games and entertainment, while making the newly formed Somerset congregation more visible in the area. The event brought church and non-churched together in a casual and fun way.

The day began with running races, followed by races involving golf balls on spoons, balloons between the knees, tied ankles and piggyback rides. This was followed by the gumboot toss, which was extremely popular - even when the spectators were dodging poorly flung boots.

Families and groups of friends took part with great imagination and enthusiasm in the sandcastle building competition on Somerset Beach and the Lolly People were welcomed after lunch. (Individuals with shirts covered in sweets were chased until all the lollies were taken.) Backyard cricket rounded out the day.

The day allowed members of the congregation to strengthen relationships with each other and it was an opportunity to promote regular activities within the Parish.

Overall, the day was well attended, was a great deal of fun, relationships were forged and we thank God for its success.
