The Call
During their pre-ordination retreat, candidates
were asked to draw their journey to ordination. Shelagh
Shaw says she 'can't draw a straight line' and instead
wrote a poem.
1. God said,
'Come walk with me
Let me show you my world,
Where people are lonely and tired,
Unknown and unheard
In need, in sorrow, in pain'.
2. 'Come walk with me
Let me show you, my joy
Where there's beauty and love
Below and above
In family, caring and health'.
3. God said,
'Come talk with me
Share my sorrowful news
Let me tell you my views
How my broken world may be healed.
Tell my story, show my glory
Until all of my truth is revealed'.
4.' Come talk with me
Share my desires and dreams
And my long planned schemes
May be your dreams too.
Help me fullfil by doing my will'.
As we walk we can talk
5. God said,
'Come stay with me, be my fisher of men
Help me turn back the tide.
To reclaim once more, what was before.
I need you to be, a servant for me
Come stay, until your life's end
Be always my friend.
Walk, talk and stay
Be by my side
Together we'll guide,
The way to my home'.
6. You are mine, you are marked.
When I call, follow me.
The way may be hard, with much pain.
But with joy and elation
You'll be doing my work
Show the world that you love me
I'll be walking beside you
Bring others to know me
To sit at my table
And eat of the food I provide.
I said, 'I will'.
