Degree of satisfaction

I was recently awarded a postgraduate degree.

It was a satisfying end to six years of part-time study and full-time blood, sweat and tears! There was a quiet satisfaction in having achieved this higher qualification, but there wasn’t the joy and elation that I was expecting.

The other day, however, I unexpectedly experienced joy while riding my motorbike. No, it wasn’t because I was riding a bike, but because I was thinking about God’s kindness towards me in forgiving all my sins – past, present and future – and in graciously including me in his family that will enjoy him forever! The Bible describes both my thankfulness to God and his salvation in this way: ‘joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light’ (Colossians 1:11-12).

That’s a ‘qualification’ that we all need and that God made possible by his Son’s blood, sweat and tears. That’s the qualification that I’m really thankful for.
