The eagle landed
Rob Menzie reports on the landing of the eagle on Mt Barrow. Still on a high from the previous two months' activities, sixty people ventured far away to Mount Barrow for a very inspiring service of worship, communion, music and much fellowship. Taking the day's theme of 'the Eagle', the Rev. Marie White reminded us how much faith and stamina we need, just like the eagle. We were fed and refreshed with the Good News of the Lord and music overflowed from Margaret Quilliam and her daughter Lauren, as well as Joanne Mitchelson on the pan flute/pipes and Lee Brient and her Nightingales. Andy Padgett, a well known forestry identity, took the younger ones for an expedition around a couple of nearby tracks. A well catered for barbecue lunch was enjoyed by all. (Some are sure that Margaret Bramich must have spent the night on the mountain to get everything running so smoothly.) A children's art competition was held with all children asked to draw an eagle. The Parish of Quamby has tried many new initiatives in the past but this is one that simply must become an annual event. Our Parish has been truly blessed in the previous few months. Praise The Lord. Bishop John made a two day visit to our Cluster of Parishes (Longford/Perth, Evandale and The Nile, and Quamby) We had seven confirmees on this day: Kylie Cashion, Natasha Stopford and Shane Pullen all adult confirmees as well as Emily Manche, Lauren and Alex Quilliam and James Robinson. Preceding the Confirmation in the service we also received Kylie into the Church through Baptism, the Rev. Marie's first Baptism. It had been a long time since the last Confirmation Service at St Andrew's Westbury - just four days short of 19 years! But what a celebration it was! Bishop John joyfully spoke to us about the narrow path of our Christian Faith and used his chook to illustrate, much to the amusement of young and old alike.
