Clergy conference 2005

Stephen Carnaby reveals what really happens at Clergy Conference...

So just what do your Anglican church leaders get up to when they escape for a few days together? The pictures might give you some (wild but accurate) ideas!

The theme of this year's conference was 'Transformation'. Guest speakers Di Nicolios (Rector of St John's, Diamond Creek) and John Kapper (Head of Theology at Tabor College) from Melbourne stimulated and stretched everyone to imagine what Jesus' transformation might bring to local Tasmanian churches and communities.

People told how varied ministries such as School Chaplaincy, Enabler Supported Ministry, Rural Bible Forums and outreach to horseriders were both blossoming and struggling in an attempt to reach out to our local communities.

At dinner on the last night, everyone was transformed into movie characters (special mention for a very green Shrek). The after dinner karaoke imprinted firmly on our minds that we should not give up our day jobs!

And in between times some of the best things happened – clergy conference is an occasion when many significant conversations take place, as church leaders bounce new ideas off each other, reconnect and pray, bear one another’s burdens, and inspire one another for another year serving God together – spread all around Tasmania.
