Who can forget?

On May 31 2005 Robert Legg retired after 34 years as Rector of the Parish of Kingston.

A public farewell, held the preceding Friday, was attended by the Governor, Bishop John, the Mayor of Kingborough, dignitaries and friends. On Sunday a farewell Parish service was held. St Clement’s was packed on both occasions.

Glowing tributes were paid to Robert’s outstanding ministry both in the Anglican Church and beyond, over such an extended period. His ministry was marked by willingness and determination to go down new, and sometimes unconventional, paths of ministry. These included charismatic ministry, meaningfully engaging the community and wider Anglican communion, ecumenical involvement, service to the Diocese including the roles of Vicar General and Archdeacon; and who can forget his Thought for the Day on commercial television over 36 years?

Under Robert’s leadership the Parish experienced rapid growth necessitating the building and the eventual consecration in 1985, of a new, large St Clement’s Church alongside the 100-year old Chapel on the corner at Kingston.

One of Robert’s top priorities in retirement is to write ‘that book.’
