An emerging ministry

'About 18 months ago Gayelene Harrower kept on at me about going riding with these women in Leslie Vale. I used to love riding when I was younger, but I thought, not another thing to do! I have too much on my plate already. I went a couple of times, to keep the peace and then the third time I had to wait for the women, to bring back some horses in a trailer.' Meredith Campbell tells what happened next.

The first horse backed down the ramp of the trailer and it was love at first sight. He was fine and fair with itty-bitty pale brown spots all over him and his name was Moses. I now sponsor Moses. I pay for his worming, shoes and his hay and I love him and I am now learning 'natural horsemanship', a way to relate to horses in a gentle and fascinating way.

I find myself amongst a community of people who love animals, especially horses and I also find that the owner of the herd can't help but share her love of Jesus. Consequently through relationships surrounding the constant care and wonderment of a herd of horses and the joy of God's creation five people have been brought into a brand new relationship with the Lord Jesus. God seems to be opening the hearts of people in this environment.

On the 31st July, the closest Sunday to the 1st August which is Australia's official 'horse birthday', the Anglican Parish of Kingston hosted a Thanksgiving Gathering on the Hill to thank God for the herd, the hill paddocks, the supporters and the community. The Hill is a stunning place set in the foot hills of Mt Wellington and Bishop John joined us, riding Grayson, the horse that is the inspiration for this developing ministry. We followed this event with a BBQ tea and bonfire at St Luke's, Sandfly.
