The Royal School of Church Music in Australia recently held its Summer School in Sydney to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of its inception. This very successful school was led by Dr David Hill, Director of Music at St John's College, Cambridge and Director of the London Bach Choir. Participants came from all over Australia, except Tasmania, and their numbers were enriched by a large contingent from New Zealand. Tasmanian input came indirectly from Philip Blake who wrote the words for the Festival Hymn, Jubilate. Shout for Joy. This was sung to two settings, one by Michael Deasey and the other by Andrew Channon. Philip's Epiphany hymn Can it be a star appearing? was also used as the office hymn on the Feast of the Epiphany. So there was a Tasmanian contribution to the Golden Jubilee Summer School of the RSCM! Well done Philip! |
