'Bobby Knopwood' was an unconventional character, but our Tasmanian church owes much to his early missionary efforts in a most difficult colony. The conserved tomb of our first Colonial Chaplain, the Rev. Robert Knopwood was recently presented to over 100 church and community guests at a colourful Twilight Gathering in St Matthew's Churchyard, Rokeby. Historical devotees in colonial dress mingled with modern day counterparts, to music from the John Gray 1824 organ CD. This was part of the Bicentenary project carried out by Clarence Plains Historical Society and interest has already been displayed in doing further works on adjacent graves. To make a donations or for information contact the Society Secretary Wendy Andrew 03 6247 6925 wandrew@iprimus.com.au Don't forget! The Knopwood Festival will be held in and around Rokeby from 10-16 April 2005. Details from Wendy Andrew |
