My Very First Bible is a beautifully worded and illustrated book for children. The Bible starts with Genesis and ends with John, with 14 different stories chosen from the Old Testament and 12 from the New. Some of them include Creation, Noah's Ark, The Ten Commandments, Jonah and the Big Fish, Jesus is Born, Loaves and Fishes, The Easter Story and Doubting Thomas. The stories are short, simple but direct and in modern language that children will relate to. The stories are interspersed with short quotes from the Bible - making it a stepping stone for older children to the Bible. The illustrations are bright and engaging, and really tell the story, making it a book to read together but also younger children can look at by themselves. The Ten Plagues is particularly well illustrated, as the pictures and text wind together around the page. Several of the stories have fun activities to get the children involved in the stories - such as 'How many animals can you name' for the story of Creation. This draws the children into the stories and keeps them engaged. This book only disappointed at the end - with the old version of The Lord's Prayer which is not very relevant to children, due to the old style-language. However, overall My Very First Bible is a fantastic book. |
