One hundred years of witness, fellowhip and service This is the year of our Lord, 2005, and it marks the centenary of the Anglican Men's Society in Australia, formerly the Church of England Men's Society. The AMS motto is 'witness, fellowship and service.' The Society and the Church are one in the sight of God and the AMS has reached out to the men of the church over the past 100 years, encouraging them to be active participants within the church, working with their local rector and providing Christian fellowship. Above all, membership of the Anglican Men's Society has resulted in many regular church-going men discovering a deeper and closer relationship with their Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. A new admitted member takes this pledge:'I promise, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to pray to God every day, to be a faithful communicant, and by active witness, fellowship and service, to help forward the Kingdom of Christ.' This pledge is repeated by all members at the beginning of each meeting. TransformedThe National Executive is producing a Book of Witness to celebrate our centenary. It will soon be available at $10 a copy. This book will contain brief stories from 50 Australian men, from all walks of life, relating how their Christian faith has transformed their lives. The centenary National Conference and celebrations will be held in Brisbane in July 2005. We in Tasmania plan to have a follow-up small celebration in October commencing with a Communion Service, led by Bishop John, at Christ Church, Longford. |
