Taking a risk with mission in Burnie

by Will Briggs

The building of relationships is key to who we are as a missional church.

For many years the Anglican Parish of Burnie Holiday Club has been used to foster the relationship with children and their families. Since its inception the Holiday Club has been held in St George's Hall in Burnie. This year, despite some risk, it was moved to the hall at Somerset in order to provide a 'link' to the new congregation that has been planted there.

Respite

It was successful move with twenty-nine children attending over four days. It was intentionally held towards the end of the summer school holidays so as to provide an element of 'respite' to parents. A number of families also came along to the 'Holiday Club' celebration on the Sunday.

The event itself was organised and run by a committed group of volunteers. It was based loosely on a Scripture Union program, Chattabox, and included craft, games, Bible teaching, and lots of food. One day was taken up with an excursion to the Ulverstone Water-Slide.

Much experience, talent, time and effort were poured into the planning and running of Chattabox. We now look forward to building on the relationships that were made and enjoying the friendships from another Holiday Club in 2006.
