The Gathering 2005
Our Theme - Gathering Momentum

Bishop John has called all Anglicans to gather again this year to celebrate God's work amongst us. On two previous occasions, The Gathering has been a great encouragement to us all. This year's event with the theme 'Gathering Momentum', will be held at the Silverdome in Launceston on Saturday the 21st May. (mark it in your diary now.)

This gathering gives us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the life of the church as it responds to the Bishop's Vision Document, 'A healthy Church - transforminglife'. Following the Bishop's Prayer Pilgrimage there is a heightened sense that God is at work in fresh ways amongst us. The word 'momentum' can be used to describe the movement of a non-physical process or the impelling force or strengths of an object or process.

There are forces and strengths in our parishes, organisations and schools that are moving us toward the future. This gathering is a chance hear the stories of hope and to listen for God's call on the Church in Tasmania and beyond. Our guest speakers will bring a national and international perspective. They are,

  • Tim Scheuer: National Director of the Church Army in Australia. Tim was the speaker at the 2004 Ministry Conference.
  • Michael Frost, the speaker at the recent CMS Summer View Conference and
  • our Bishop John

We will also have as a very special guest the nationally and internationally known performing artist, Mr Peter Gray, with the 'Slickest Slack Wire Act in Town'. Take a look at his website http://www.wobblywire.com

We are also creating an opportunity for sharing God's work in our local places and organizations. The highlight of the gathering will be the gathering around the Lord's table as we share in worship and Holy Communion together.

Please plan to come and bring a friend. It's the Bishop's hope that more that 1500 of us will gather and that coming together we will be greatly blessed by God.

Be there!
