The annual Bocce (commonly called Boules) Competition was held at All Saints Church on 31 October. A service of Praise and Prayer with an excellent Powerpoint presentation, and a rousing address from the Revd Bob McKay preceded the BBQ lunch where about fifty people gathered in anticipation to see who would walk away with the Boules Perpetual Trophy this year. This competition began in the year 2000. Anyone could enter, in pairs, and there were several youngsters who literally had a 'ball' as they sized up the 'jack' and let the bocce balls fly. Less than levelBocce is unlike bowls in that it does not have a professionally-prepared green. It is played on the less than level grassy lawn and balls can be tossed as well as rolled. There were some excellent shots, and others just a bit remote from the play. It was a time of cheering and laughs, with barracking to encouraging the players. About twenty contestants took part and this is growing in number every year - an annual event we all look forward to. We were blessed with a very warm and sunny afternoon. O, yes - the winners!Sally and Michael Lees (who also won in 2002). Time for everyone to start practising. |
