Small groups used their new skills in planning the next day's Parish Service.

Speaker Jill McCoy had a lot of expertise and practical advice to share at Burnie's worship Seminar.

Something for everyone at Burnie worship seminar

Over the weekend of November 12-14 the Anglican Parish of Burnie hosted a Worship Seminar, having invited respected educator in liturgy Jill McCoy from Melbourne to speak.

The weekend was a great chance for people from Burnie and other parishes to learn more about worship and its relevance in our life as Christians. Worship leaders, pray-ers, readers, musicians, eucharistic assistants, and members of the congregation were all able to find something for them during the weekend.

Jill McCoy has taught Christian Worship at Ridley College over the past eight years and has conducted numerous seminars for parishes. She brought to our weekend a great deal of expertise, information, and encouragement for those who attended.

Contributors rather than spectators

Between 35 and 40 people attended the sessions on the Friday evening and the Saturday. Session topics ranged from the basis of worship, through to the practicalities of praying and reading. There was an emphasis on the corporate nature of worship and encouragement for all members of the congregation to see themselves as contributors rather than spectators in services.

The seminar ended with groups planning the following day's Parish Service at which Jill preached on persevering in Christ.

It was an encouraging weekend, and we hope to hold another in the future.
