Martin Dumaresq (L) explains the history of the Mt Ireh Estate to AMS members and guests at the Fellowship Day

Fellowship plus + plus + plus

by Max Robinson

Saturday 23 October - the sun shone, no wind, the venue an earthly paradise, the fellowship extraordinary and the organisation perfect.

This description was agreed to by all who attended the Anglican Men's Society Fellowship Day for Anglican men and their sons and grandchildren at the Mt Ireh Estate near Longford.

We were very privileged to be the guests of the Dumaresq family who own this picturesque and well-maintained property.

Of the several highlights during the day, none thrilled us more than being entertained by The Fellas, the a cappella singers from Launceston Church Grammar School, who have performed at festivals on mainland Australia and on ABC Radio. Their first performance that day was under a huge 170-year old oak tree - what an experience! After a BBQ lunch, they performed again in the small, historic Illawarra Christ Church.

Sad note

This beautiful church on a large acreage of the Mt Ireh property, was donated to the Anglican Church in the 1800s. The acoustics enhance music and one cannot avoid being nearer to God when within these sacred walls.

Thank you Trevor Cowell, the Longford Branch members and Martin Dumaresq for giving us a day to remember.

The only sad note is that even though this day was so well publicised, so many Anglican men throughout our Diocese missed out on a truly wonderful day of genuine Christian fellowship.
