You know those days when you just want to stop time in order to complete everything that needs doing? I was having one of those days when I picked up this book that I had received earlier at my confirmation. I was feeling disheartened with a week of end of year re-tests, was coming up to exams, had a 'God-talk' to present for youth group etc., etc. Despite this, I took time out to relax, and picked up Patsy Clairmont's autobiography I Grew Up Little: Finding Hope in a Big God. Right from the blurb I was interested and from the first page glad I had taken the time to read it. GiantThe book tells the uplifting story of Patsy from birth to her life now, as a 'five foot nothing giant'. She suffered agoraphobia after her marriage at seventeen, but gotten through to be a leading speaker at Christian conferences all over America. I especially enjoyed her tales of childhood, with recollections of her adventures with her brother. Throughout her entire life she has remained a Christian and I was intrigued as to how she moved through the condition of agoraphobia. This was the one disappointing part of this story as this phase of her life is covered in a little under two chapers, but the rest of the book is worth this sacrifice. HopeClairmont's theme in her autobiography is hope. At the and of each chapter is a quote from the chapter relating to hope. Although some are better than others, all are something to think about. The whole book is written a little like a speech and is not completely chronological in order. It is rather more organised by themes than anything else. This is a wonderfully uplifting read and I would recommend it to anyone of any age. I really appreciated the gift of a truly inspirational book. |
