Festival Tasmania 2005 with Franklin Graham

Over the long weekend of March 11-13, 2005, Franklin Graham, son of noted evangelist Billy Graham, will be in Hobart to conduct a three-day evangelistic 'Festival Tasmania 2005, with Franklin Graham.'

This initiative aimed squarely at bringing the transforming message of Jesus Christ to the people of our State is a co-operative effort of several churches and denominations. Our own Bishop John serves as Chairman of the board of Patrons for the Festival.

So - Why? How? Where? What? is a Franklin Graham Festival?

The following extract from the Festival Tasmania Newsletter may prove helpful.

Why? The goal of a Franklin Graham Festival is to mobilise the Christian Community to assemble as many people as possible to hear the message that Jesus Christ is 'the way, the truth and the life'. It provides an opportunity for personal commitment, and to refer enquiries to a local church for follow-up and Christian nurture. This strengthens the local church.

How? A Franklin Graham Festival - like a Billy Graham Crusade - can be compared to an iceberg. The festival events are the most visible part, but in fact, the actual meetings where the Gospel is proclaimed represent only about 10% of the effort. Preparation is about 45%, with prayer, training, motivating and mobilising. And 45% goes into preservation - the crucial follow-up and nurture of those who respond.

What? A Franklin Graham Festival is built upon the principles and experience of Billy Graham Crusades. It isn't just in the community for a few days and then gone. It's a Spirit-led event that begins months, even years, before and continues to affect and shape lives for days, months and years afterward - and for eternity! A Franklin Graham Festival is an effective tool to assist the local church in reconciling people to God and each other in Jesus Christ, and in strengthening the local congregations through involvement and training opportunities.

Five Key Components
  • Prayer - is a Franklin Graham Festival Priority. There are many organised opportunities for prayer.
  • Leadership - opportunities are presented to train and equip laity for leadership roles in Festival promotion, and Gospel presentation.
  • Training - includes Christian Life and Witness Classes and Discovery Group training. Christian Life and Witness Classes have just concluded.
  • Outreach - Operation Andrew, and inviting people to the Festival. At present, Operation Andrew is in full swing.
  • Discipleship - Ongoing follow-up by local churches of those who respond to the call.

Numerous other events leading up to the Festival will shortly begin to be promoted. We look forward with anticipation to how God will use this event to transform the lives of many Tasmanians.
