The Commission for Christian Education in State Schools (CCRESS) - part of the Tasmanian Council of Churches - has designated Sunday 27 February 2005 as Schools Sunday. On this day in particular, church communities are being invited to celebrate, pray for and support our schools. The invitation to congregations is to include within worship on that day - or on another nearby Sunday that may be more locally suitable - a focus on schools and Christian ministry in schools, prayer for their local school(s) and the people in them, and a commissioning of those from the congregation who are involved in schools. A very helpful Schools Sunday Pack has been prepared, that includes ideas for Schools Sunday, suggested Bible readings, a newsletter insert, a puppet play and drama. Schools are important places for mission within our community. Schools Sunday presents a wonderful opportunity at the start of a new school year for congregations to link with their local school and those who make up that local school community - and to see this as part of their ongoing mission.
