Chaplaincy Supervisors' Conference

by Eric Cave

Supervisors came together in Hobart in mid-September for the annual conference of ANZACPE, the Australia and New Zealand Association for Clinical Pastoral Education.

The conference commenced with an opening service at St David's Cathedral. Six supervisors presented for accreditation or re-accreditation during the conference.

Keynote speaker Philippa Moyes, former Head of Music at Hobart College, spoke of Music as the Good Communicator, demonstrating with video and tape recordings how the listener can be influenced emotionally by the use of particular styles of music.

Stephanie Thompson psychologist and music therapist, used CDs to demonstrate how she employed music as a tool in supervisory practice. She spoke of the need for supervisors to be engaged in supervision themselves.

Refreshed

The third presenter, Lukas Briellmann from the Austin Health-Repatriation General Hospital, led a workshop on music and movement in supervisory practice.

Delegates returned to their homes refreshed by their Tasmanian experience and taking with them new insights into supervisory practice. Jeanette Lewis, Dean Stuart Blackler and the Diocesan Office Staff each added to the success of the conference.
