Double Click - Digital cameras

by Andrew Lang

If you are thinking of buying a new camera, you might consider going digital.

Digital cameras give a easy photo-taking option and enable the user to record memories cheaply.

If thinking about buying a digital camera, there are a number of points to consider.

  • First, the resolution measured in mega-pixels. This is an indication of the graininess of the picture. The larger the number the better, particularly for enlargements.
  • Second is the capacity (or available memory). The mega-pixel rating will determine the file size of each photo. You can buy memory cards of various sizes. The larger the card, the more photos that you can store on it.
  • Third, you need to consider power. Depending on the camera and whether using flash, your batteries will have a limited life. It is best to use rechargeable batteries and a charger. If planning to take a lot of pictures, it is best to have a number of spare sets or the ability to plug into mains power.

Finally, there is the connection to your computer. You need to consider the physical connection as well as the appropriate software. Further information can be found online at How to decide on a Digital Camera
