Mission Afloat News

by Allister Martin

  • Welcome to Robyn Bishop, our new Receptionist/Office Assistant each weekday morning except Friday (Jill's day). Her scouting background and friendly enthusiasm make her a valued member of the Mission Afloat team already!
  • Welcome aboard, also, to Ted Costello, in charge of our big boats. Ted comes from WA, loaded with sailing qualifications, expertise and good humour!
  • And another warm welcome to local artist, Sue Miller - watch out for artwork options on your next camp!
  • Kate Visagie is our very newest volunteer and considerably gifted in all areas of boating and student management!
  • Thank you to Esther and Frank Sainsbury who have kindly donated a microwave oven to Mission Afloat: a necessity when the pressure's on at lunch time!
  • On Friday, 20 August, we hosted a BBQ lunch for the Kingborough Ministers' Fraternal.
  • Our second birthday festivities on 22 August were great fun: a 'nautical' service in the Chapel (yes, of course we sang Will your anchor hold …!) followed by a sumptuous afternoon tea in the Centre, with mulled wine!
  • Just in time for the spring growth around Monty Park... all mowers are now repaired! Work continues: the Chapel is being painted, and thanks, Charlie Lucas, for the gutters! The maypole is ready for action, with plenty of soft-fall and a safety 'chute' for waiting children. This is a favourite activity among the school groups, and the source of much delighted squealing!
  • A Safe Ministries Seminar will be held on Saturday, 18 September at St Clements, Kingston, from 10 - 3pm. This is the first step in the accreditation process which is mandatory for staff who work with children at Mission Afloat. Contact Jill Martin (6229 4796) for more details.
  • Thank you to Wendy Hey who has sewn some bright new banners for the entrance to the property! They add a welcoming splash of colour.
