Just a thought

Three legs

I often describe our lives as being like a three-legged stool, each leg representing a part of our human nature - the physical, the mental and the spiritual. We take for granted the fact that if you take away one leg of a three-legged stool it will not stand up.

Similarly, if we do not look after each part of our nature we have trouble having a balanced and satisfying life. We also find that many things become a burden or cause anxiety.

Many people have one leg missing, or at least rather short, and seek to compensate by filling up their lives with 'busy-ness', or seek spiritual answers through Yoga and other Eastern forms of meditation, or turning to psychics or astrologers or gurus to provide answers or detachment from this world. All with very limited success.

Jesus said: 'Come to me all who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly of heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.'

Jesus does not magically take away all our problems or challenges, but he does lighten the effect of them. As we learn from him, we find that not only our spiritual 'leg' is strengthened and in place, but our other 'legs' are stronger too.

Jesus wants you to be a whole person. Are you willing to respond fully to him in faith, commitment and devotion so that you may be whole?
