Unveiling the plaque to declare the new Bell Bay Seafarers' Mission building open

New building for Seafarers' Mission in George Town

by Sean P. Tiernan

The Bell Bay Seafarers Mission is run jointly by the churches of George Town and on Saturday 22 May the new Bell Bay Seafarers' Mission Building was officially opened, followed by a sausage sizzle.

In Bell Bay we average 15 ships and 100 seafarers per month. Our work ranges from helping to alleviate the loneliness and isolation that many seafarers experience as a result of being away from their families and friends for long periods, to assisting with work-related problems and safety issues.

We have four phones available for seafarers to call their loved ones, two computers with internet access, eight-ball and table-tennis, kiosk and quiet room. We also have a 21-seater bus for trips around the area.

The Mission is always looking for volunteers, so give us a call on 6382 2312 if you are interested in helping out.
