AMS news - and great news it is!

A group of men at Holy Trinity in Launceston, who have been meeting for some time for prayer together and for mutual society, help and comfort have now decided to become a branch of the Anglican Men's Society.

Other branches across the Diocese and the national and state executive welcome them warmly into the wonderful fellowship of AMS. We hope the initiative of the men at Holy Trinity will fire other similar groups of men in parishes across the Diocese to explore the value of joining the Anglican Men's Society. The encouragement given to the men of Holy Trinity by their Rector, Father Doug Edmonds, to prayerfully consider this initiative, has been greatly appreciated.

Again

AMS is again sponsoring an Anglican Men's Day as we did a couple of years ago. This year it will be at the Mt Ireh Estate at Longford on 23 October from 10.30 am to 3.00 pm. We are hoping to encourage younger men to attend and have titled the day 'Dads and Grandads Day' with the expectation that older men - which really describes many in AMS! - will bring their sons and grandsons; and if there is a young granddaughter, then why not also? - to this day for lunch, a tour of the wonderful property courtesy of Mr Martin Dumaresq and a final great singalong in the beautiful Christ Church, Illawarra on the Mt Ireh Estate. Barbecue lunch will be provided. Modest cost.

But wait, there's more!

Thanks to their director Mr Jeffrey Clarke, The Fellas will perform during the day. Details are yet to be finalised but the accompanying newspaper extract will indicate what a treat that will be.

A Launceston singing group has struck the right chord with concert-goers in Canberra. The Fellas, a group of 16 and 17 year-old Launceston Church Grammar School students, performed to enthusiastic audiences…and gave impromptu renditions at many well-known tourist sites. "The group was the first a cappella group to participate in (a ceremony at the national War Memorial)… These young men, aged 16 and 17, are excellent role models and fine ambassadors for our city and state, said Mr Clarke. - Launceston Examiner, 12 June 2004
