One morning I'd heard reports on the radio of snowfall elsewhere, but not in my part of the world. So what a wonderful surprise to go outside and see Mount Barrow covered in fresh snow! I was quite overwhelmed by the unexpected sight of it and from my own back yard: loads of pure white snow against the background of a clear blue early morning sky. Wow! What happened to me that morning reminds me of God's unexpected and surprising promise to his sinful people: Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. (Isaiah 1:18) That is how God sees his pardoned people. That is therefore how they see themselves. What a sight, what a promise, what a Saviour!
'Just a Thought' features some of the notes that our clergy write for regular pew sheets and bulletins. This month's article is one that David Rogers-Smith wrote for a weekly column in the North-Eastern Advertiser. |
