Holy Trinity Launceston has identified three immediate areas of mission: tourists, the business community and local residents. The ministry to tourists suggested itself since, whenever the church door was open, visitors would come in, curious about the buildings amazing architecture. A team of Trinity Guides now open the doors each weekday morning to assist visitors and encourage them to think about the meaning of all the architectural beauty they see. Meantime, the parish has been thinking about how reveal some of its hidden treasures. SilverfishIn the large organ loft are shelves and other receptacles, containing old books, pictures and sundry paraphernalia deposited there over the hundred and two years of the buildings existence. A group of parishioners donned anti-dust garments and commenced evicting silverfish and spiders and then collating, organising and classifying this valuable collection. Jewel in the crownIt is expected that the more significant pieces will form a display in the church. Other historic items salvaged will also find a safer and more accessible home. This archive will then be available to researchers and students as well as for the edification of the congregation and the large number of visitors who come to inspect this magnificent building. The building and the historic archives are a significant and valuable part of Launcestons heritage, as well as being the jewel in the crown of the Diocese. |
