On Flinders Island Pentecost is celebrated with a combined Church Service. Held in the Municipal Hall it is a time of worship, fun and fellowship. It is also a time of challenge as we explore different themes. This year it was languages. The hall was decorated with John 3:16 written in a variety of languages as were the words Happy Birthday. We had an Aussie Damper and the traditional birthday cake was complemented with cakes from other countries. It was wonderful to have these cooked by people from our island who originated from these countries - Philippino, German, Italian, Greek, English. Even better to have some of these people join in the service for the first time. We even had a go at singing Silent Night in German. Pentecost services are also a time when the kids (and adults) look forward with anticipation to see what Reverend Bob will get up to this time and they were not disappointed! It included balloons, tables and people big and small as seen in the photo. What was the point?Well what cant be achieved by one can be achieved by many, for we are all important and valuable - so lets work together for God! |
