Calling all Grandparents!

Two Seminars on Grandparenting held at St Luke's Taroona in 2003 received very positive feedback from the participants.

In the light of this, the Parish of Sandy Bay and Taroona, through the Diocese, is organising a third Morning Seminar on Grandparenting on Saturday 31 July 9.15am - 12.30pm at St Luke's Taroona - the theme this time:

Drugs and our Grandchildren

Extensive research shows that families can be a vital factor in keeping children from becoming involved with the harmful use of drugs. In this area, informed, equipped and empowered parents and grandparents have an important role to play.

Topics to be addressed during the morning include:

  • Drugs: how bad is it?
  • Why kids take drugs.
  • How to educate kids to make good choices.
  • Prevention tools for adults.
  • Learning to intervene and where to get help.

These topics will be treated from the point of view of grandparents, and there will be plenty of opportunities for discussion throughout the seminar.

Publicity and registration leaflets have been sent to all parishes in the Southern Mission Region.

New participants are welcome, as each seminar is self-contained. We hope to see many more grandparents at St Luke's on 31 July!
