Vale - John NewtonI was saddened to hear of the sudden death of Mr John Newton, OAM. John, disabled since a young man, worked tirelessly for other people with disabilities and his award was highly deserved. John was a committed Christian and a member of the Parish of Cressy where he served as parish treasurer for a number of years. His perseverance and joviality were an example to us all. Vale - Jeffrey ParsonsWe received news in June of the death after a long illness, of the Rev. Jeffrey Parsons who was Dean of Hobart from 1980-1983 and later Chaplain at Collegiate School. Jeffrey will be fondly remembered by many who came into contact with him during his time in this Diocese and we extend our sympathy to Marjorie and family and assure them of our prayers at this sad time. Interview with Bishop N.T. Wright of Durham, EnglandThis was holiday reading at its best. Bishop N.T. (Tom) Wright is one of the world's leading scholars on the New Testament, and especially on the letters of Paul. He is also a member of the Eames Commission, appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, currently pondering the crisis within Anglicanism caused by the consecration of a non-celibate homosexual bishop in the United States. National Catholic Reporter interviewed Wright in May on the Anglican crisis, as well as on the resources the New Testament might offer to the debate in the United States over denying communion to Catholic politicians who disagree with church teaching. His answer to a question about discipline and 1 Corinthians 11 is very challenging. Wright was in Rome for a series of lectures at the Lay Centre. Click here to read the interview on the website of

Kitten or lion?Several parishes have been excited by the challenge of the transforminglife vision and some of their stories appear in this months edition of Tasmanian Anglican. Look for more in the months to come. And tell us your stories - how have you used the Transforminglife guide in your parish? What changes have you made? What ideas have you taken up? How is your ministry evolving? How bold have you become? When you look in the mirror do you see the cute little kitten or the powerful lion?
