Anglican Women's Fellowship

by Ronnie Palmer

It is a just a week today that we were having fellowship with the women of the West Coast. During a recent quiet time with our Lord I read again the story of the feeding of the five thousand, with the great lesson to be learnt, 'give God what you have and he'll use it to bring more blessings to you and others'. What a mighty God we serve!

Jean Cox and Ronnie Palmer met in Queenstown with Vera Whittington, Norah Petty and Win Fitzpatrick. They welcomed us but weren't sure at first that they could organise a fellowship day. Following a reading of Psalm 32:8 and John 15:15 and some prayer, we were all uplifted by the Holy Spirit and so our fellowship day was 'born' and the little we had we gave and trusted in our heavenly father's promise to supply our need.

And how he did!

More that fifty women attended, from Burnie, Wynyard, Penguin, Sheffield, Devonport, East Devonport, Wesley Vale, Beaconsfield, Queenstown, Zeehan and Strahan. A last minute arrangement to hold our service in the Senior Citizen clubrooms opposite St Martin's Church due to a funeral being held in the church was just a minor hiccup.

A wonderful moment for me was to behold a dear woman in her 90s, sitting with eyes closed, face and hands raised to heaven and joy and the love of her Lord shining from her face as we sang the old favourite 'To God be the glory.' One mother shared with us the miracle of her two-year-old son who was saved from certain death under the wheels of a car.

Our guest speaker was Mrs Jennie Sutton, Tasmanian Regional Co-ordinator of Operation Christmas Child. Jenni went to Cambodia in January to help distribute the gift-filled shoe boxes. Jenni witnessed great answers to prayer and encouraged us to be missionaries 'at home' preparing the shoeboxes. Our service collection for the day was handed to Mrs Calina Bailey for use on the West Coast.

The AWF annual conference will be held at St Mark's, Deloraine on 4 - 5 May and the Smithton group will hold a fellowship day on Thursday 14 October.
