National Bishops' Conference 2004My time spent at the Bishops' Conference was both challenging and rewarding for me. Many topics were covered in the programme including presentations by Bishops from New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, Alan Nichols - 'The future we are in' - and from Keith Castle the new Director of NCLS, on the ministry of the Anglican Diocese in Australia and Bruce Kaye spoke on 'Communion and Authority in the Anglican Church'. This was a time for us to think hard about our ministry. Keith's presentation can be viewed at: ncls-ozbishops2004 SPCKA National Council - A good news storyAs Chairman of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge-Australia (SPCKA) I'd like to encourage you with the exciting way in which Australian Anglicans continue to support Christian Literature. From Zimbabwe to Nepal to the Anglican Church of the Congo there are projects to help in spreading the Gospel and training new believers with Christian materials available in local languages. In Cambodia the vigorously growing Christian Church is being helped by the formation of a library. The work of SPCKA is also supporting the Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations, which is lead by Dr John Azumah in Ghana. Books are needed in the area of basic Christian doctrine, evangelism, biblical studies and general books on Islam and Christian-Muslim relations. The principal purpose of the Centre will be to train evangelist-scholars for meaningful witness in a Muslim context. I would encourage you to continue the support of the work
of SPCKA in your mission giving. See the SPCKA
website. These fortnightly letters can be found at bishopsdesk . They are sent by email to active clergy, members of Diocesan Council, Ministry Council, Trustees and parish secretaries. If you would like to join the mailing list for 'From the Bishop's desk' simply email bishop@anglicantas.org.au The letter can also be sent as a plain text email. |
