The long, long tug-of-war at the annual Fun Day.

Lacquered eggs failed to stick but added to the fun.

A long line of laughs

by Wendy Holland

We were blessed with generosity and a beautiful day for our annual Fun Day get-together for the children and parents of our kids' groups.

Lots of sausages, ice cream, chocolate and lollies were eaten and occasionally thrown, in a mad dash to see who could get the most during the lolly scramble.

It was every man for himself as the children threw the boot at unsuspecting bodies running for cover. Who said kids are unco-ordinated? One young man was dunked upside down in the bucket of water in retaliation for the wet sponge lovingly scoured all over one Dad's back. Full marks to the Dad as he laughingly took it all in his stride.

Lacquered

The eggs were lacquered in hopes of keeping the shell on until the last egg and spoon race was run. We quickly realised that no amount of lacquer was going to save the eggs from falling apart on the spoons. Mum and Dad made do with the bits and graciously cleaned up the remains. Once again the most popular event was the Tug of War. Certainly it was a long line of laughs. What a victory it was for the women and girls when the males were hoisted over the halfway mark!

Wonderful generosity

The children solved one of the fastest treasure hunts in history. It is always an encouragement to hear what the children can remember when it comes to Bible knowledge. Our two local supermarkets were happy to sponsor our event by donating $50 each of food and lollies. We have often called upon them for sponsorship and have never been turned away empty handed - wonderful generosity.

We all look forward to starting the year with the Fun Day. There are always a few new kids that come along for a look and a bite to eat. We might see them again and we might not, but they know that kids are always welcome in our churches here in St Helens. Now we look forward to the privilege that is ours in bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to the little ones in our midst.
