In the middle of 2003 God's Holy Spirit began to gather together new members at St James, New Town and St Andrew's, Lenah Valley. So what is new? The thing that was new is that these people were under the age of twenty-five. 'Yes young people.' Not only did the Spirit provide younger members for the congregation but also youth leaders. And so youth ministry began. A service was planned and eighteen young people came along to share in worship, God talk, prayer and FOOD. Couldn't waitSeven months later the monthly Jim Jam service continues to attract young people together for worship, God talk, prayer and FOOD. Amongst the group were three girls who made a commitment to Jesus and came forward for baptism. As part of their preparation twelve members of the group have joined them in a Youth Alpha course. The Alpha course has been an exciting time of discovery and surprises about being a Christian. As the girls couldn't wait until the end of the Alpha Course for their baptism, a wonderful baptism service was held at St James on 30 November. When asked why they were coming to St James the young people answered that they felt welcomed and included in the parish family.
The Jim Jam service is on the third Sunday of each month at 5.00 p.m. and concludes with pizza around 6.30 p.m. All young people are welcome to join in. |
