A significant part of Cathedral
ministry is on behalf of the diocese and frequently on
behalf of the churches of Hobart. Since the beginning of
this year we have welcomed:
- organ lovers for three programs as part of the
recitals in the Hobart Summer Festival Organ
Recitals;
- members of the legal profession, led by the Chief
Justice, for the opening of the 2004 Law Year;
- Collegiate
School for the opening of the 2004 Law Year;
- Collegiate School Year 12 induction service;
- the 36th annual Community and Ecumenical Floral
Festival;
- the National Conference of the Order of Australia
Association, a service attended by the
Governor-General;
- the First Settlers Association joining with others
for a Bicentenary Service and the Knopwood Sermon. The
Earl and Countess of Buckinghamshire were special guests:
the Earl-Miles Hobart-Hampden is also Lord Hobart;
- Tasmanian Toccata Concert;
- students and community groups attended the
Commonwealth Day service when the Governor read the
Queen's Message.
- Members of Parliament will be attending a service on
7 April marking the opening of Parliament to be held that
afternoon.
- The War Widows' Guild Field of Remembrance service is
to be held on 21 April.
- And, of course, there was the procession led by the
Governor, the Bishop,
the Lord Mayor and the Foundation chairman from the Town
Hall to the Cathedral on Saint David's Day, launching the
Cathedral Foundation.
Of all of these, none was more colourful in those present
at the Christmas celebration of the Hobart Sudanese
community, who gathered in the Cathedral for worship and a
concert and in the Close for a lunch of African cuisine.
