It gives me pleasure to report on another year of activity for the Gifts to Missions Project. But first, I want to pay tribute to Mrs Marjorie Palmer, who passed peacefully away on 13 December at the great age of 96 years. It was she, together with Mrs Dorothy Kay, who began this outreach when the Senior Citizen's Club of Holy Trinity, Hobart, knitted baby garments to send to Dr Mary Cheeseman, a Tasmanian missionary in charge of the John Bishop Memorial Hospital in Kashmir. Marje worked tirelessly and with great enthusiasm for both the Indian mission and the Tanzanian outreach through the Medical Mission Auxiliary of C.M.S. in Melbourne. DonatedIn 2003 a group from St Luke's Taroona sent six parcels to India and packed another six in February 2004. All parcels sent in the past year have been gratefully received. We also supplied World Vision with warm clothing including jumpers, caps and rugs. These were sent to Romania for destitute and orphaned children. The Little Shop at Lindisfarne continues to support this outreach and sold many beautifully knitted garments donated for the local market, raising a record $563.00 for postage. We are especially thankful for other donations to help with postage. DailyDr Paul Rajendra, Medical Superintendent of the Maple Leaf Hospital in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, writes, ' really we are thankful to you and your women co-workers who are knitting for the babies. May God bless your wonderful hands daily to serve the poor.' Dr Xavier, who works for the poor and blind people in Dehradun, Uttar Pradesh, and Miss Romawii, Manager of the Dar-Ul-Fazl Children's Home in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, write with similar appreciation. Please pray that this work may continue.
Goods may be left at Holy Trinity Parish Centre, Hobart or to arrange collection contact AWG Coordinator Judy Pearson, 32 Wandella Avenue, Taroona 7053. Phone 6227 8760 |
