The men led, but were outnumbered by the women - just. The Family and Friends Day at St Matthew's Church in New Norfolk, organised by the Anglican Men's Society on Saturday 14 February, was a success. The women of this parish certainly excelled in providing morning tea and lunch. Our three branches were represented together with Diocesan members from various parishes including Devonport. With friends and widows of past members, forty 'good' Anglicans enjoyed a day of fellowship and inspiration. BrilliantAfter morning tea, a service of Holy Communion was conducted in the beautiful and obviously well loved Church of St Matthew, led by AMS Chaplain, the Rev. Peter Johnson from Longford. His sermon on God's presence in our lives stimulated our faith and with Trevor Cowell at the organ, the hymns chosen for the service were sung with gusto! Following an excellent lunch, we were taken on a leisurely stroll around the township by local identity and parish member, John Cannan, who was brilliant at explaining and describing, not only the history of St Matthew's, but also many interesting features of New Norfolk, the oldest country town in Australia. The Anglican Men's Society in Tasmania, would like to thank the Coordinator of Adminstration, the Rev. Brian Eccles and his team of volunteers for their willingness, time and effort in hosting the AMS in a day of 'fellowship plus.' |
